Work Placement for Level 5 Diploma in Teaching
(FE & Skills) Qualification

At Britannia School of Academics, we are dedicated to helping learners who are struggling to find work placements on their own. For Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (FE and Skills), learners will carry out a minimum of 250 placement hours. Out of these, 150 hours are dedicated to teaching practice in an FE setting in both specialist and non-specialist areas. Other than that, 100 hours are dedicated to non-teaching activities in which learners will actively engage in various essential tasks: this includes developing resources, participating in professional development programs (CPDs), standardisation meetings, devising effective assessment plans and other relevant activities.

By engaging with the skills and knowledge provided through this, learners will be able to apply what they learn not just in their specific work placement but also in a broader, more holistic way. This will enable them to integrate new abilities across various aspects of their professional life, enhancing their overall growth in not only the FE and Skills sector but also other diverse work environments.

This work placement route is designed to facilitate both primary and secondary locations to ensure learners meet all the practical requirements of the course.

To meet the requirement of teaching practice, learners will have the option to choose any of the specialist areas we offer. One will be a ‘specialist subject’ which is typically the one in which a learner has the most expertise; most of the teaching practice will focus on this specialist subject, which will be beneficial in the learner’s teaching/training career. The other can be a ‘general’ or from a ‘different subject area’; this could be a subject that complements the learner’s specialist subject or one that they are interested in learning more about.

Following are various specialist areas for learners to choose from and focus on for their teaching practices, in both specialist and non-specialist fields:

  • Education and Training (for example, Level 3 Award in Education and Training)
  • Customer Service
  • Business Administration
  • Accountancy
  • Mathematics
  • Literacy
  • Employability Skills
  • Beautician Courses
  • Health and Social Care

BSA experts will provide every possible support in completing the theoretical and practical aspects of the qualification encompassing 250 hours and written assignments and samples of work.  Once the portfolio is completed, learners will participate in a 30-minute final assessment (viva) conducted by the assessor. This oral discussion can be related to any aspect of professional practice.

Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (FE and Skills) prepares learners to teach effectively in the diverse further education and skills sector. This advanced qualification equips them with the knowledge and capability to inspire and educate learners in a wide range of subjects and disciplines.

The course’s start date is flexible, as is the case with all other programmes on offer at Britannia School of Academics. For further information about the course including FAQs, please visit the course page here.
