Overview

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, also known as the Level 3 CAVA Assessor course replaces A1 course and is considered an industry standard qualification for people looking to assess learners for accredited courses.Previously if you wanted to train to become an assessor you would complete the D32 and D33 units. The D Units were replaced by the A1 Award.  Finally, the A1 Award were replaced by the current suite of qualifications, which are commonly referred to as TAQA (Training Assessment and Quality Assurance).Most training centres would expect you to have CAVA assessor qualification before you start assessing in the FE and HE sectors. You are not required to have any prior qualification or experience to start this CAVA certificate, just a passion to teach or train. This NVQ assessor course will assist you regardless of your subject expertise, whether you teach music or coach people. The course is accredited by UK OFQUAL, and is delivered 100% online. We will offer support to you.

Please note that if you do not want to do the do the complete certificate then the Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment is accepted by most employers, which costs less time and money to complete. To understand the difference, please have a read through this blog.

Duration and Delivery

This course is designed to be completed online at the pace that suits you best. The fast-track level 3 CAVA course can take as little as 1 week or up to 4 months. This level 3 assessor qualification is delivered through our Virtual Learning Environment. Our online tutor support is there to facilitate you to achieve your success rate accordingly.

Assessment and Verification

All units within this assessing qualification are internally assessed by our qualified assessors and externally verified by the awarding organisation. The assessment takes the form of written assignments and demonstration of assessment skills through video recording, detailed guidance for which will be provided by the tutor.

Progression

Successful completion of this 100% accredited online course enables learners to proceed to the Focus Awards Level 4 Certificate in Leading the IQA of Assessment Processes and Practices and the Focus Awards Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training. This level 3 assessor course will also help you enhance your career profile and become an apprenticeship assessor.  This is the most thorough level 3 assessing qualification and would allow you to assess NVQ apprenticeship assessor courses and any other regulated training in your subject area.

Entry Requirement

Learners should:

  • be aged 19 or over
  • have a satisfactory level of Literacy and Numeracy skills
  • have access to atleast two learners on accredited courses to assess each unit

Practical Requirement

Unit 2 and 3 are practical and expects that you assess two learners studying for a course that is work based and studying for a course that is mostly theoretical in nature respectively.
If you do not have access to learners to meet the practical requirements of the course, you can avail our work-placement service or opt for the Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment.

How will I be assessed?

Unit 1 will be assessed through written assignment. For Units 2 and 3, you will be assessed in a work environment, practically assessing your learners work.

This unit help in assessing learner’s performance. This unit covers the areas of assessment planning; judging both performance and knowledge and providing feedback; making assessment decisions and providing feedback. The assessment skills to be demonstrated are through the assessment of natural performance, simulation and questioning.

NVQ Assessors support and assess learners that are working towards their National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). An NVQ Assessor will assess and train learners in order for them to gain the occupational standards needed to achieve their qualification.

There is no time frame to complete the course. Most learners complete it in as less as 1 week (fast track) or up to 4 months (full time).

You are required to have access to at least two learners for each unit to fulfill the requirement of unit 2 and 3.
Yes, the Level 3 certificate does not allow simulation.

This should not be a problem. We will wait for you till you find a placement and then, carry out the practical requirements. Meanwhile, you can work on the theoretical part of this course. You can also avail our work placement offer in case you cannot manage finding a placement for yourself. An alternative choice for you is to opt for our Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment which does not require any work placement.

No, your learners do not need to register with the awarding body.
