DET to DiT: Discover the New Changes Happening this September 2024

You might not know this but the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training has undergone major changes.

The name Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training going to be changed to Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (DiT) (FE and Skills).The new framework has been put forward to align with the growing changes and needs in education.

The latest developments in this teaching qualification will help teachers meet the diverse needs and preferences of students and make teaching as well as learning more effective than before.

Level 5 diploma qualification will be expected to launch on 1 September 2024.

What is Different in the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (FE and Skills) compared to the old Level 5 DET?

 The Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (DiT) (FE and Skills) has different sets of entry and practical requirements which are as follows:

1. Entry Requirements

The ‘entry requirements’ for Level 5 DiT (FE and Skills) have been changed slightly.  To enrol, learners must obtain Level 2 Qualification in Literacy and Numeracy, exhibit proficiency in studying at level 5 and have an adequate level of digital proficiency to accomplish the qualification requirements.

2. Placement Hours

The learners are now required to complete a total of 250 hours on placement as a practical requirement of the course instead of 100 hours previously required for Level 5 DET.

These hours are further divided into 150 hours of teaching log: out of these, 100 hours for the specialist subject area 80 hours for face-to-face delivery, 20 hours for remote synchronous (live) delivery and 50 hours for the subject area other than the specialisation.

What’s more? Learners are required to devote 100 hours of non-teaching practice to Continuous Professional Development and other relevant duties and meetings.

3. Observations

According to the new framework, Level 5 DiT (FE and Skills) learners are required to complete 10 observations in two different educational settings/organisations. Each observation must be of approximately 45 minutes and supported by 2 mentors in the relevant settings.

This will help teachers learn new skills, like integrating and operating new versions of technologies, and focus on multiple teaching methodologies like blended learning while offering multiple other opportunities to students who face challenges and cannot attend physical classrooms.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the revamped framework of the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (FE and Skills) represents a proactive response to the ever-changing demands of the education sector.

Through these changes, teachers will be now equipped to meet the diverse needs of students and easily operate in the current teaching environments.

They will be able to contribute more to the enhancement and advancement of the teaching profession as a whole.
