How many teaching observations are required to complete this course?

For Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, eight teaching observations are required which will be observed by qualified assessors.

How long should each teaching observation be?

Each observation should be at least 60 minutes. If it is shorter than 60 minutes, additional teaching observations would be required so it would be best to have each lesson planned for at least 60 minutes.

I am currently not at work, so cannot arrange for a teaching observation. What should I do?

This should not be a problem. We will wait for you till you find a placement and then, carry out the observations. Meanwhile, you can work on the theoretical part of this course. You can also avail our work placement offer in case you cannot manage finding a placement for yourself.

If I'm currently undertaking the DET qualification, will it still be recognised after the DiT is introduced in September 2024?

Yes, if you’re in the process of completing the existing Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET), it will remain recognised by Ofqual and Awarding Organisations upon completion.

Do I need to update my DET qualification?

No, there’s no requirement to update your qualifications. Your Level 5 teaching qualification, whether it’s DET or another equivalent, remains valid and meets industry requirements for the sector in which you’re employed.

Can I still apply for QTLS status with the existing Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training?

Yes, the DET allows you to apply for registration with QTLS immediately after gaining your certificate for the upcoming window starting from Monday, 12 August 2024, through the SET website.

If I have L4 CET, can RPL be applied on L5 DiT?

The CET can only be recognised as prior learning for the completion of the L5 DET. This is not the case for the replacement of L5 DiT. Therefore, if you presently hold a CET (Certificate in Education and Training), this is your opportunity to use this to accelerate your prior learning and lead you on the path to qualified teacher learning and skills (QTLS) status.

Will my L5DET still allow me to teach in the FE and Skills sector once the new diploma is introduced?

Absolutely. The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (L5DET) will continue to be accepted as a qualification for teaching in the FE and Skills sector, even with the introduction of the new Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (L5DiT).

If I’m currently undertaking the DET qualification, will it still be recognised after the DiT is introduced in September 2024?

Yes, if you’re in the process of completing the existing Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET), it will remain recognised by Ofqual and Awarding Organisations upon completion.

Do I need to update my DET qualification?

No, there’s no requirement to update your qualifications. Your Level 5 teaching qualification, whether it’s DET or another equivalent, remains valid and meets industry requirements for the sector in which you’re employed.

Can I still apply for QTLS status with the existing Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training?

Yes, the DET allows you to apply for registration with QTLS immediately after gaining your certificate for the upcoming window starting from Monday, 12 August 2024, through the SET website.

If I have L4 CET, can RPL be applied on L5 DiT?

The CET can only be recognised as prior learning for the completion of the L5 DET. This is not the case for the replacement of L5 DiT. Therefore, if you presently hold a CET (Certificate in Education and Training), this is your opportunity to use this to accelerate your prior learning and lead you on the path to qualified teacher learning and skills (QTLS) status.
