The Level 3 Award in Preparing to Work in Home-Based Childcare is ideal for learners who want to work in home-based childcare settings, including childminding assistants, nannies, and au pairs.

Duration and Delivery

This Level 3 Award in Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare qualification is designed to be completed online at the pace that suits you. Our Level 3 Award in Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare course can take as little as 4 weeks or up to 6 months, depending on your previous experience and the time you can dedicate to the course. This Level 3 Award is delivered through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) whereby you are provided online tutor support to successfully complete your course.

Assessment and Verification

This qualification will be internally assessed by our qualified assessors and externally verified by awarding organisation through portfolio of evidence. The assessment takes the form of two written assignments and work products, detailed guidance for which will be provided by the tutor once you start the course.

Portfolios will be submitted in batches of learners twice a year, in February and July, for sampling and certification by the awarding body. Learners are advised to submit their work at least one month in prior to ensure they receive their certification within the respective timeframe.

Progression

Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners can progress to higher-level qualifications and further training, including a bachelor's degree in childcare or childhood education. The following qualifications are available for progression:

I have worked in education for 34 years, in various guises. I managed a busy nursery for 12 years before branching out into Assessment and Quality Assurance, more than 20 years ago. My practice has developed alongside the ever-evolving training and apprenticeship sector, and I have worked in many different settings, including colleges, private training agencies and a foster care agency. I also work part time as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant for a local charity that supports higher level education for young people with Special Educational and/or behavioural needs and as a tutor for a bespoke programme for one-to-one support. I really enjoy supporting learners of varying abilities and experience to achieve their best and to become qualified in their chosen field.
