There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification. However, the learners must be 16 years or above to get themselves enrolled in this course.
As this is a competence-based qualification, learners are required to be employed or hold a placement within an appropriate school environment, so they can demonstrate their skills and progression. You must be supervised by a qualified teacher willing to attest to a range of activities undertaken and to oversee your practical evidence gathering.
All units in the course will be assessed through a series of written assignments submitted to and marked by your course tutor. For some units, you must provide witness testimony to meet the assessment criteria requirement.

There are no formal academic entry requirements. You simply need to be aged 16 or over and have a reasonable standard of written English to complete the assignments. No prior qualifications or experience in education are needed. However, having GCSEs in English and Maths would be advantageous.

Yes. This is a competence-based qualification, which means learners are required to have a work placement in a school environment and must be supervised by a qualified teacher. You will need to nominate a workplace supervisor who will oversee your practical evidence gathering. This placement can be a full-time paid position, a part-time position, or a voluntary placement of one or two mornings, afternoons, or days per week. It is recommended that you have the placement for the duration of your studies.
The recommended duration is up to 9 months. However, a fast-track option is available if you wish to complete the course in as little as 4 weeks. You will be registered for up to 12 months, with support extensions available if needed.
There is no time frame to complete the course. Learners can complete it within 4 weeks (fast track), or up to 9 months.

Witness testimonies are supporting evidence provided by an occupationally competent individual (such as your workplace supervisor or teacher) who verifies your workplace activities and validates that you can conduct a skill or task. They are compulsory in certain units and will be clearly stated in the relevant Assignment Guide.
A reflective account is your written statement indicating how you performed the activity, what went well, what did not, what you learnt, and what strategies you will adapt for improvement. It is submitted alongside the witness testimony in the same Assessment Brief document.

The course will open doors to your new career supporting children and young people in a school environment.
An occupationally competent individual — i.e. a work placement supervisor, a learning resources manager, or even a teacher you are directly working with as a teaching assistant — is requested to complete the Witness Statement form. Without this independent verification, it is impossible for us to approve your tasks.
There is only one witness statement form to be filled by your workplace supervisor. This form will cover all the assessment criteria from relevant units / modules of the accredited course that require a witness testimony.
Feel free to provide your supervisor with the Witness Statement form as soon as you have done appropriate planning and your mentor is available to fill the provided form. There is no hard and fast rule on when to undertake the activities. Some of you might choose an activity to undertake every other day and some might do it every week. It varies from situation to situation.

Moreover, if the supervisor has not witnessed you performing some of the targeted assessment criteria in your undertaken activities, the assessor will have to conduct an observation directly observing your activity to confirm the fulfilment of the remaining assessment criteria.
As teachers, we are bound to follow professional ethics. There is an element of trust that our trainee teaching assistants and the expert witness won’t present an inaccurate account of the activity undertaken. However, we will be vigilant and investigate where we are concerned that the sessions have not taken place as claimed.
